Ingredients:
6 Granny Smith Apples3 cups white flour1/2-3/4 cup brown sugar2 teaspoons cinnamon1 teaspoon nutmeg1/2 cup butterpinch saltPre-made graham cracker pie shellVanilla ice cream
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (Suzanne recommends preheating electric ovens to 375 degrees). Peel and core apples. Slice into half moon shapes and place in a pot. Cover with some water (approx. 1/2 a cup), then put on the stove to simmer over medium. You just want to soften the apple pieces a little – don’t overcook!
2. Place butter in a small pan on the stove and melt. You want the butter to take on some colour, so allow it to brown a little.
3. Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl. Once the butter is melted and has taken on some colour allow it to cool slightly then add it to the bowl with the dry ingredients. Mix the melted butter into the flour mixture.
4. Pour apples and any remaining liquid into the pie shell. Pile high! With your hands, start to put the flour/butter mixture onto the apples. Pat down and keep adding until you have a shell of the flour mixture over the apples. Add the flour mixture as evenly as possible. Don’t worry if it looks dry or if it cracks.
5. Bake for approximately 40 minutes, or until the pie looks golden. Allow to cool slightly, then top with ice cream (Suzanne recommends classic vanilla).
